At 18 I could get a pint of beer for about 1shilling ten pence as far as I can remember, although I did smoke I cannot remember the price but probably the same as beer.sorry I can’t help more.But when I was about 10years I got 1 shilling pocket money for this I had to feed hens and clean the hen house all week but I can remember being naughty I could get 5 woodbine, which was a strong cigarette, a book of matches get into the morning matinee, which was a children’s show for the shilling, then as far as I can remember there was no age limit to buying cigarettes .hope this helps

September 3, 2009 4:25 pm | #3I dnt know the answer but i think its a very good question my next door neighbour who i think is 80 something was saying how much do fags cost nowadays its like £4.50 a packet innit and I was like yeah thats for the cheap 1s and he was saying how much he earnt and stuff.

You could probably get into the flicks for 2 jam jars. They needed the glass after the war I think, just like a precursor to recycling plants I suppose.
