Lorie Nees asked:
I’ve always wondered how much money it takes for a film to be called “successful” Does anyone know?

It has to at least make back it’s budget. Considering this factor movies can be successful with incredibly different box office earnings. A small low budget movie can be successful if it makes 50 million, whereas a large bigger budget movie can be considered a flop even if it makes 100 million. Here’s an example: The Blair Witch Project made 140 million. That was a HUGE success because the budget was so low. However, if Superman Returns had made 140 it would be considered a flop because it’s budget was so big.
In short there isn’t exactly a magic number when determining box office success.

Its usually sucessful if it make x2 of its budget since theaters and rental stores usually take out half of what it earns,A blockbuster movie would be over 100 million though.

For an opening weekend if it makes at least 20 million it is a hit at the box office…Successful means they made back their budget and some profit
