Most theatres will inquire about it if a 17 year old is buying multiple tickets at once. A parent should be there to purchase the ticket (it’s the law in many states) but theatres don’t really care.

I have bought tickets for kids underage before… they don’t say anything unless it’s a busy time; like I’ll get carded if it’s during winter break or whatever.
