Why do people continue recycle songs and movies from old content instead of creating new?
Performing Arts
Peter G asked:
Remakes of movies, movies made from old tv shows, which most of, frankly weren’t that great to start with. Songs with the same music and different words thrown over. Sampling of songs. And don’t get me started on reality TV shows, cause that’s not under this queston…

Why work when you can just copy? It is is cheaper and less risky since it assumes a built in audience to some extent.

They are revenue generaters. If that were not the case, they wouldn’t do it.

some of it is nostalgia some of it is greed and laziness. I hate to see a good memory gone bad with a bad remake, I think if one is going to pay tribute to something it better be worth watching.

They want to evoke some kind of sense of history that can’t be captured, even through montage in 2 hours. People go for that familiar, even if it’s not particularly good.
I understand your complaint in the lack of creativity. All you can do is try to not make the same mistake when it’s your turn, if that’s how you see it.

Because the general public, aka the lemmings don’t want to hear original new sound. There is plenty of great music out there. Its just beaten down by the masses who don’t understand it.
They want to hear something that sounds like everything else. If it sounds different or bizarre most people won’t like it. Only musical connoisseurs will. Why? What are they hearing that others can’t? Good question. It’s likely the complexity which overwhelms the average listener, and excites the music lovers senses.
If you are a musical connoissuer, your best bet is to seek out the great independent artists, because they sure won’t be picked up by major labels (who require profit margins wider than the grand canyon).
Ditch the Evanesence and System of a Down…
If people want some real music check out
Sufjan Stevens - Illinoise
Radiohead - The Bends
Queen - A Night at the Opera
If you can’t stand any of those three then you probably qualify as a lemming and should stick to clearchannel radio for the rest of your life.
Oh, and to the one who said that musicians are out of ideas: I’d say there’s way more musical ideas than there are people to understand them.

They lack fresh and innovative thinking.
