Do you get frustrated with the people that just see the Harry Potter movies and then think they know?

what its all about? I am talking about people that have never read a word of the books, but think they know the characters and the stories.

Haha yes. I mean, the movies suck compared to the books. They leave so many things out. Although most of my friends either love it or hate it, so I don’t run across those people too often.

Yeah.
The books are way more detailed and give you a lot more knowledge of what’s going on.

Well, the Harry Potter movie universe and the book universe are similar, but definetly different. Facts and events from the books had to be altered or deleted in order for the story to work as a movie. Thus, they are two different universes and cannot be compared, really.
So I guess the answer to your question is no and yes. No I’m not frustrated about somebody who watches all the movies, as long as they had seen, and are talking about the movies. But I would be frustrated if they thought they knew about the movies when they had never seen them (the same concept can be applied to the books).

I agree it’s SO stupid. The movies are really poor representations of the books.

Not at all. That is their level of fan commitment. To a pure Harry Potter fan, well, naturally you know better and have the richer experience. It was the same for me and the Godfather: the book had more in it, the book was a different experience. Take To Kill a Mockingbird: the book was a whole lot different and in my view better than the excellent movie. I feel much the same about Harry Potter.

haha yes!! it used to annoy me now i LOVE IT!! jk yes it does the movies are like 15% of the book. or even less. whatever I GOTTA read the book.

ugh i agree! can’t wait for the last book =]

yes, i know. i personally don’t think anyone is a TRUE fan unless they’ve read the books. the movies capture the plot line, and some of the story, but you MUST read the books to get the ENTIRE story. like, anyone who hasn’t read the 5th book, but did go see the movie doesn’t know anything about Nevilles parents. and personally, i think people probably think that Nevilles partents are dead, and in fact they arn’t. i wish they would have put that scene in the movie, but they didn’t, so now only the book readers know that part, and it is a big part in the book.
people who watch the movies DO think they know everything there is to know about Harry Potter, but they don’t know that they’re missing most of the ENTIRE story!! so yes, i agree with you. and personally, i think in the books, Dumbledore seems alot ‘nicer’ than he is portrayed in the movies. i’m not saying that Micheal Gambon is doing a poor job, i think he is EXCELENT at portraying the character of Dumbledore, but, he is just different in the book.
so, yes, i do think people who have only seen the movies and think they know Harry Potter are frustrating.
hope i helped,
have a nice day!!!

Absolutely not.
They are cheating themselves from the total essence of the entire story from day 1.
I have read, and own every Harry Potter book so far (not including the new one,) without skipping to the end. I have seen all of the movies, and the appreciation that I have experienced can’t even be touched by these fake Harry Potter fans.
Instead of frustration, just smile and shake your head. Don’t waste that energy over them. Just enjoy yourself more.
Peace and Love

i hate it, but the jokes on them because they dont know how much they are missing….the movies are great but they dont compare to the books
July 30th, 2008 at 8:05 am
yes it kills me…I hate it the movies leave out a lot from the books.
July 30th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
yes i do find them troublesome and annoying bcuz they feel they are more hardcore fans than we avid readers bcuz they’ve seen it and everything.
