Do movie theaters have the right to card you MULTIPLE times?

Law & Ethics

movie theaters
Eric H asked:

So I saw the Happening, and I was carded when I bought my tickets, at the door, at the entrance to The Happening, and by an DURING THE MOVIE! It is simply ridiculous. Do they have the right to card me or once I am in the theater?

Yes. And as a private company they can even bar you from ever going there again.

  2. MrCool1978 Says:

If the movie is rated R, they di have a right to card you, even if they do know you.

Of course whether or not a place will card you depends on who is working of the policy of the place.

  3. James Watkin Says:

    Yes, they do.

  4. Victor K Says:

Yes, they have every right to card you. To them, you could be sneaking into the movie…not to say that u were.
Plus, i dont understand what the big deal is, right? I mean, ur over 18, so ur obviosuly not going to get into trouble. Plus it takes like 20 seconds of your time to show them ur card. You have nothing to hide, so let them check u…they’re the ones that look like idiots for accusing u of being a minor.

  5. Joe Jackson Says:

I hate being carded when I’m not even close to the carding age and don’t even look that young. It becomes a nuisance

  6. whitefangz1 Says:

It’s a private company. They can ask you to stand up and do the hokey pokey, if they wish.
Carding you when you bought the tickets was to make sure you are of legal age to watch the movie. Carding you at the door was to make sure you didn’t have someone else buy the tickets for you. Carding you at the entrance was to make sure you weren’t sneaking into an R-rated movie after buying a ticket for a PG movie. Carding you during the movie was to make sure you didn’t sneak in after the movie started.
It’s a touch paranoid, but that’s within their rights.

  7. Ambivalent. Says:

They can card you as much as they want to.

  8. mufasa1023 Says:

they can card you as many times as they like and you can decide to not go to that movie theatre ever again
